The Tamil Nadu government's decision to have the state electricity board implement the 1,600 MW power project at Udangudi in Tuticorin district would result in saving Rs.900 crore, according to a senior official.
“The project will get the mega power status if implemented by Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) which in turn would be eligible for tax and other concessions. The overall project cost may come down by Rs.900 crore which in turn would result reducing the power cost,” the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation official told IANS.
Tangedco is the power generation and distribution subsidiary of TNEB.

The hosiery town of Tirupur was shaken by a major burglary at a jewellery shop run by Kerala-based Anto Alukkas group in the early hours of Tuesday.
The robbers took away around 40 kg gold and two kg of diamond jewellery valued around Rs.14 crore.According to police, the burglars had gained entry into the shop, located on the first floor of a complex in the town’s busy Kumaran Salai, using gas cutters and crowbars to cut the iron bars Monday night.
